Rail Designer/Railway Design Engineer
We are recruiting a Rail Designer on behalf of our client, an international consulting and engineering group active in Romania for almost 30 years, with services in road and rail transport infrastructure, water and environment, energy, urban development, and institutional advisory. Globally, the company creates and operates intelligent infrastructure and buildings that support the transition to a low-carbon economy and sustainable territorial development.
If railway design is your specialisation, this role lets you apply it on large infrastructure programmes, with responsibility from the design theme all the way to handover and execution monitoring. You’ll prepare technical design solutions, drawings, and project documentation, support the technical checks, and keep the relationship with the Beneficiary, subcontractors, verifiers, and involved institutions — with field visits as part of the work. You will be part of multidisciplinary design teams (roads, bridges and structures, railways, hydrotechnical works), working to international design and contract management standards, including FIDIC.
Location: Bucharest (Victoriei area) — hybrid work schedule
Employment contract (CIM) or B2B collaboration, based on your preference
Large-scale transport infrastructure projects, in Romania and internationally
If railway design is your area and you want projects with real technical depth, apply now — or get in touch first for an informal conversation. We will tell you which company is hiring, walk you through the projects and the team, and nothing is sent to the employer without your go-ahead.
Main Responsibilities
Request the design theme and analyse and understand the content of the terms of reference
Participate in the design activity to meet the contract deadlines and the design schedule
Prepare technical design solutions, drawings, and project documentation in line with the design phase requirements
Make the technical documentation available to the reviewers and participate in the technical checks
Prepare bid requests for subcontractors and present them to the Department Manager
Ensure communication with subcontractors to meet delivery deadlines and check their documentation against the terms of reference
Make field visits and intervene when technical or schedule requirements are not met, identifying remedial solutions without compromising the project
Prepare external interim reports when requested and actively participate in the technical part of the solution
Maintain relations with the Beneficiary, subcontractors, local administrations, utility owners, the external verifier, and involved institutions
Support interim and final approvals and notices (depending on experience and delegation)
Hand over the project to the Beneficiary and participate in monitoring during execution
Maintain confidentiality and participate in the preparation of the technical offer
Requirements
Technical / Engineering degree
3–5 years of experience in Romania in railway design and monitoring is an advantage
Excellent computer skills in MS Office, AutoCAD, and dedicated design software
Strong sense of responsibility, high ethical standards, teamwork, and decision-making ability
Confident, clear, and polite verbal communication, including active listening
